Artist: In the manner of the late Peggy Ekagina Pangon (1919 – 1992) W2-290 of Kugluktuk, Nunavut
Materials: Carved in stone native to the Kugluktuk region
Condition: Excellent (Small scratches here and there from age, patina intact)
Dimensions: 4.25″ h x 4.0″ w x 6.0″
Asking Price: CAD$ 1,585 (before packing, insurance, shipping).

Very much in the manner of the late Peggy Ekagina Pangon (1919 – 1992) W2-290 of Kugluktuk, but confusingly it has the name REMONA CHAISSON carved into the bottom. Searches through my Inuit Artists Lists show no results. Online searches of the name reveal nothing. I am forced to conclude that a Remona (Ramona?) Chaisson owned the piece for a time, and chose to carve her name to the bottom to mark it as hers. I have seen this sort of thing a fair bit over the years, especially with earlier pieces.

But that’s only part of the mystery of Musk Ox Woman, as you can see. She has a quiet presence…
